At the end of the day, I take off my clothes and drape them over a chair.
“I’ll tidy them up tomorrow.”
The next day, another garment lands in the same spot.
Then another day passes, and yet another piece is added to the pile.
At first, it didn’t seem like a big deal.
But before I knew it, the chair was buried under the clothes, and the room began to feel stifling.
Our lives seem to be much the same way.
A worry we put off,
a task we leave for later,
an unresolved misunderstanding,
these things gradually pile up in our hearts.
Each one may seem light on its own,
but as they accumulate, they become a heavy burden.
Just as the small habit of hanging up a single garment
keeps the room tidy,
the habit of resolving one small matter today
lightens our hearts and our lives.
Perhaps what brings about great change isn’t a grand resolution,
but the courage to simply tidy up the small things right in front of us.
Try tidying up just one piece of clothing today.
It might well be the first step toward a better life. πΏ
